It collects artifacts found in the area of ​​Caltanissetta, belonging both to the natives that the Hellenistic civilization. It contains most of the finds of the prehistoric period but also finds from excavations carried out in the 50s, including vessels and tools from the Bronze Age and the first examples of Sicilian ceramics.
 
The oldest part of the collection is made up of a considerable amount of finds recovered in the sixties by the Archaeological Nissen, coming, mostly from sites Pietrarossa Palmintelli, S. Giuliano, Sabucina, Gibil Gabib, Vassallaggi. Museum qualifies as one of the most important in Sicily for the presence of finds of great interest for the knowledge of indigenous civilizations.
